Volcom Presents "The Bruce Movie" DVD Surfing Movie view trailer

After many long months of filming and editing, we are proud to announce "The Bruce Movie" is nearing completion and will be available in early August. Shot entirely on 16mm, Super 8 and 35mm movie film, "The Bruce Movie" is an in-depth look at one of the most renowned surfers on the planet: Bruce Irons. Some have described Bruce as, "A freak", "Unpredictably spontaneous", "Explosive" and "The deadliest guy on tour". Bruce's uncanny tube riding ability and high flying aerial attack will leave you awestruck. Along his path, Bruce has won surfing's most prestigious event: The Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational. In the film you will also witness his frustrating first year on the World Championship Tour; in typical Bruce fashion, he waits until the last second to regain a spot on the WCT where he makes the final at one of his favorite waves: Pipeline. This first film on Bruce Irons will go down in history as a must have in every surfer's library.

Step Into Liquid DVD view trailer

Thanks to Dana Brown's delightful Step Into Liquid, the surfing scene in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, should get a healthy boost. That's because Brown, in the tradition of his father, filmmaker Bruce Brown (The Endless Summer), has captured dazzling images of surfers riding curls in some of the world's most exotic--and sometimes unlikely--places. Besides the action on Lake Michigan, Brown leads us to Costa Rica, where the sport's senior elite (including Summer star Robert August) prove they still have the moves, and Oahu's North Shore, where the legendary Pipeline inspires this quote: "It's so scary, maybe you die a little." Most entertaining is a segment in County Donegal, where the American Malloy brothers startle the locals and meet their Irish counterparts on the grayest ocean imaginable. Great personal stories here, including the tale of Northern California's Dale Webster, who has never missed a day on the waves in 30 years.

Laird (White Knuckle Extreme) DVD view trailer

Teahupoo, Tahiti. On the 17th of August, 2000, a line was drawn in the sand and Laird Hamilton stood alone. Engulfed in the vortex of the heaviest wave ever ridden, Laird Hamilton stood where no man had ever stood before. Death was the only outcome if a mistake was made. The footage shocked the world. Had it not been captured on film, no one would believe it was possible. It was a moment shadowed only by the journey of his life as a waterman and explorer of the most pure form of energy on earth. This amazing film, shoot on both High Definition and 35mm, won numerous awards at the 2002 X-dance Film Festival. This is the extreme movie of the year, quite possibly the decade. Music By Ben Harper, Moby and Bender!

Riding Giants (Special Edition) DVD view trailer

Riding Giants is more than another blissful surfing movie. It's an outstanding documentary about one era in American alternative lifestyles, when surfing was well-suited to a radical culture of social dropouts.

Thicker Than Water DVD view trailer

Compared to other surf films being flooded into the market these days, this is not bad. Music is good, footage is good (note: SHOT ON FILM, not video). It was somewhat hard to figure out where they were. We have clear scenery change, but no indicator to tell us where they really were except for the traditional Irish folk music that obviously indicated they were surfing Ireland. Director's commentary is witty and insightful and gives us perspective that few surf films give us and basically provides a good reason to watch it again -- and again. The version of this DVD I purchased in a local surf shop included a second disc; a CD with the soundtrack from the film. Very nice and a unique marketing and packaging idea. It actually convinced me to purchase the package. More importantly, the music is actually good (I was disappointed, though that the Irish folk music used in the film was not included on the soundtrack CD). But as a film, come on, it's only about 45 minutes long (with special feature bonus material, about an hour). It can't possibly be that difficult to compile film to make it last longer than an hour. Anything less than an hour these days, let's face it, is somewhat of a disappointment. Jack Johnson's involvement added to the film, though. Nicely done, let's just have more of it. I'm glad to have it in my DVD collection, though.

Longboard Fever - A Pure Surfing Experience DVD

The action never stops in this DVD filled with 1 hour 24 minutes of pure surfing stoke: Kevin Connelly's amazing footwork winning him the MSA Club Classic contest at Malibu; one of the best days ever at Swami's; Cardiff, Rincon, and even the Wedge going off; Joel Tudor free-surfing Cardiff and styling his way to victory at the US Open at Huntington; and an hilarious section featuring a radio a controlled surfer ripping HUGE (to him) gnarlburgers. "Longboard Fever" is a must have.

Kelly Slater - Black and White DVD

In Black and White is an in-depth profile of 6-time world surfing champ, Kelly Slater (Riding Giants), before he went on to be the most dominant and influential surfer of all time! In Black and White is arguably one of the best surf films of all time on the most exciting surfer in the world!

Jack Johnson - September Sessions DVD view trailer

September sessions is fantastic because it isn't about some competition or has any lame footage of time in between surfs- it's just about the surfing.... it may be short but it's all quality, beautiful surfing.... and it has an absolutely amazing soundtrack.

Billabong Odyssey DVD view trailer

In addition to boasting one of the most astonishing opening sequences in the history of extreme-sports filmmaking, Billabong Odyssey offers a breathtaking survey of big-wave surfing at a pivotal stage in its evolution. With the advent of Jet-Ski Waverunners used for "tow-in" access to gigantic waves that paddle-surfers could never reach, this three-year, globe-trotting quest for the world's biggest waves is nothing less than spectacular. As documentaries go it's a bit cruder than 2003's other surfing movie, Step Into Liquid, and many of the same world-class surfers appear in both films (including 49-year-old Ken Bradshaw, still going strong). But Billabong is unrivaled in its abundance of jaw-dropping footage--most of it shot from helicopters hovering in close proximity--showing the sheer, terrifying scale of breaking "tubes"--some reaching 100 feet--at the most challenging big-wave locations on the planet.

Vans Triple Crown of Surfing 04' DVD

Vans Triple Crown of Surfing 04'- Very Best of Winter From The North Shore, Oahu For established champions and aspiring pipeliners alike, the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing is like a greatest-hits collection that never goes out of style. This 65-minute surf-orgy covers all three competitions in the 22nd annual Triple Crown challenge, which is essentially the Stanley Cup, World Series, and Super Bowl of surfing, all rolled into one awesome showdown on the most challenging breaks of Oahu's north shore. It's there, in the tropical winter of 2004, that the world's greatest surfers showed up to compete against the best of the best, a stellar lineup of veterans and newcomers including Derek Ho, Mark "Occy" Occilupo, Phillip MacDonald, brothers Bruce and Andy Irons, Tom Carroll, and many others. The TC tour is comprised of the Vans Hawaiian Pro tournament at Haleiwa (which many consider the "scariest" break of all, with huge waves on a shallow-water base); the O'Neill World Cup of Surfing at Sunset Beach ("the most challenging," some say); and the Rip Curl Pro Pipeline Masters competition at Pipeline, where the biggest breaks (and a deadly reputation) cause even the boldest surfers to get a case of the jitters. It's there that finalists Jamie O'Brien, Kalani Robb, Bruce Irons, and six-time Triple Crown winner Sunny Garcia (the first surfer to surpass $1 million in prize money) compete for the title of "best in the world," and director Bill Kiely's camera crew is there, in the roiling surf, to capture all the action.

Surfing For Life DVD

The story follows 10 seniors who are still actively surfing today, how they have learned to grow old gracefully, others kicking and fighting all the way, not only against their waning physical strength, but politically to keep the Hawaiian beaches safe from the encroachment of modern society. There is joy, laughter, and even a few tears, a film that is touching and filled with the Aloha Spirit.
